Ekaterina “Katia” Shutova is an Associate Professor at the ILLC, University of Amsterdam, where she leads the “Natural Language Understanding Lab” and the “Natural Language Processing & Digital Humanities” research unit. Katia received her PhD from the University of Cambridge, and subsequently worked as a research scientist at the University of California, Berkeley.
Her work focuses on applying machine learning techniques to linguistic and multimodal (e.g., language + vision) data. Currently she specifically works on multilingual language modeling, on making machine learning models more interpretable, generalizable, and robust.
